Send a reminder before the due date, one on the day, and one after. Keep each short, polite and clear about the amount, the date and how to pay. Most late invoices are forgotten, not refused.
1Before the due date
"Hi Dana, a quick note that invoice INV-0047 for $1,200.00 is due on Nov 20 2026. You can pay by Zelle at the address on the invoice. Thank you." Short and friendly.
2On the due date
"Hi Dana, invoice INV-0047 for $1,200.00 is due today. Here is how to pay again, in case it helps. Thank you."
3After the due date
"Hi Dana, invoice INV-0047 for $1,200.00 was due on Nov 20 2026 and I have not seen the payment. Could you let me know when to expect it? I have attached the invoice again."
4Keep a record
Keep each message with the invoice. If a client still does not pay, a dated record of your reminders helps.

Questions people ask
How many reminders should I send?
Three is common: before, on the day, and one a week after. After that, call the client.
Should I call instead?
For a large invoice, yes. A short call is often faster than messages.
